PDO Cheeses, Wines, and French Classics
French culinary heritage rests on official quality standards. About forty cheeses are classified as Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), including Camembert from Normandy and Comté from the Jura. On the wine side, roughly 360 AOCs are recognized, including the Grand Cru vineyards of the Côte de Nuits such as Romanée-Conti in Vosne-Romanée. Medium-level questions also have you place the Bordeaux wine region around the Gironde estuary, with Médoc and Graves on the left bank, and Saint-Émilion and Pomerol on the right bank.
