Painters and Paintings Quiz: From the Renaissance to the 20th Century
Welcome to Quizoland's painters quiz. Ninety fact-checked questions, three difficulty levels, one goal: put your knowledge of the great masters of painting to the test. Leonardo da Vinci, Vermeer, Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, Dalí, Klimt: the world's most famous paintings get put under the microscope, along with their dates, the museums that house them, and the movements that gave rise to them. These quizzes are part of our general knowledge quizzes section, which also covers art, literature, mythology, and much more.
Five Centuries of Painting in Ninety Questions
The questions deliberately span a wide range of periods. The Italian Renaissance with Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo. Spain's Golden Age with Velázquez. The Dutch Golden Age with Rembrandt and Vermeer. 19th-century French painting, from Delacroix's Romanticism to Courbet's Realism, then on to the Impressionism of Monet, Renoir, and Degas. And finally, the great artistic breaks of the 20th century: the Cubism of Picasso and Braque, the Fauvism of Matisse and Derain, and the Surrealism of Dalí and Magritte.
Famous Paintings, Thefts, and Little-Known Facts
The hard quiz digs into a few standout episodes. The 1911 theft of the Mona Lisa by Vincenzo Peruggia, recovered in Florence two years later. Velázquez's Las Meninas, a painting-within-a-painting that so fascinated Picasso he went on to paint 58 variations of it. Rembrandt's The Night Watch and the acid attack that damaged it in 1975. These are documented historical facts, not urban legends: every question cites its source (Wikipedia, thematic articles) so you can double-check it.

Why Play Painting Quizzes
Painting is a major part of general knowledge: it comes up constantly on trivia shows, in civil service exams, and on art history tests. Remembering who painted what, which museum houses the work, and which movement it belongs to is something that sinks in through repetition. One daily quiz plus two or three rounds on this page are enough to lock in the key facts.
