Pioneers, the British Invasion, and the Golden Age of the Sixties
Chuck Berry laid the groundwork in 1955 with "Maybellene." Elvis Presley exploded onto the scene in 1956. Then came the British Invasion: the Beatles landed on The Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, followed by the Rolling Stones, the Who, and the Kinks. Our questions will have you pinpointing the release of "Abbey Road" (1969), identifying the Beatles' bassist, and naming the guitarist who joined Pink Floyd to replace Syd Barrett. Monterey Pop in 1967, Woodstock in 1969: the legendary festivals are all part of the lineup.
Hard Rock, Punk, Grunge: The Major Waves
The 1970s gave birth to hard rock with Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath. Punk exploded in 1976 with the Sex Pistols and "Anarchy in the U.K." The 1990s belonged to Seattle grunge: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains. Our questions cover the producers (Butch Vig on "Nevermind"), notable death dates (John Bonham in 1980, Kurt Cobain in 1994), and famous covers (Hendrix covering Dylan on "All Along the Watchtower"). Every answer is sourced on Wikipedia.
A Timeline Format for a Change
