Computer Science Quiz: 9 Quizzes to Test Your Knowledge
Here at Quizoland, the computer science quiz covers the basics every user should know, plus a few gems reserved for enthusiasts. Nine quizzes, 90 verified questions, three difficulty levels. You'll come across computer components, operating systems, networks and the Internet, programming languages, units of measurement, the history of the field, and basic cybersecurity concepts. As with all our science quizzes, you play directly in your browser, with no sign-up and for free.
Components, Systems, and Units of Measurement
CPU, RAM, hard drive, SSD, motherboard: the easy questions revisit hardware vocabulary — the kind you see on spec sheets without always fully understanding. The medium and hard levels go further — the 1971 Intel 4004, the shift from kilobyte to kibibyte, the 128 bits of an IPv6 address. On the systems side, Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android all get their share of questions. The difference between bit, byte, kilobyte, and mebibyte deserves more attention than you'd think — the quizzes will make you get the numbers right.
Networks, Programming, and Computing History
HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, TLS, DNS: the protocols that run the Internet come up regularly in the quizzes. There's also a historical layer — RFC 1, published in April 1969, the Web conceived at CERN in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee, and Linux announced by Linus Torvalds in August 1991. Programming languages get their due as well: C and Dennis Ritchie in 1972, Python and Guido van Rossum in 1991, Java and James Gosling in 1995. And for cybersecurity, there's enough to help you tell a cookie from a Trojan horse, and AES from RSA.
A Chrono Format for a Change
If a classic multiple-choice quiz feels too comfortable, switch to a chrono quiz: computing milestones (the invention of the transistor, the first email, the creation of the Web, the release of the iPhone) have to be put in order, with no answer choices given. The free-entry quiz format is even more demanding: you type the answer yourself.
Score, Timer, Overall Leaderboard
Every question is timed. Your score combines correct answers and speed. Top performances climb Quizoland's overall leaderboard, across all topics combined. For a short, daily session, the daily quiz offers 10 fresh questions every morning.
